Headstone & Memorial FAQ

Answers to common questions about buying a headstone online, custom engraving, pricing, and shipping. Can't find your answer? Call or email us.

Our Himalayan granite memorials start at $899. That price includes custom engraving. Shipping is calculated at checkout based on your location and is fully insured. Final cost depends on style and design complexity.

Because we source directly from quarries our family has worked with for generations and finish each memorial at our own workshop, our prices are significantly less than what you would find at a local monument dealer for a comparable stone. There are no hidden fees, no sales tax in most states, and no additional charges for standard engraving.

Every SilkStone memorial includes:

Premium Himalayan granite, mirror-polished and inspected. Custom engraving of names, dates, and an epitaph at no extra charge. A digital proof for your approval before engraving begins. Insured nationwide shipping via UPS Ground (calculated at checkout). If your memorial is damaged during shipping, we replace it at no cost.

Custom designs beyond our standard catalogue are available and quoted separately.

From the time you approve your digital proof, please allow 4-8 weeks for production and delivery. You will receive a digital proof within a few business days of ordering. Timelines vary depending on design complexity and shipping distance.

Need it sooner? Rush production is available for +$300 (2 weeks or less). If you have a specific cemetery installation date, let us know and we will do our best to meet your schedule.

Absolutely. Before any engraving begins, we create a detailed digital proof showing exactly how your memorial will look, including the text, font, and layout. You will receive this proof via email for your review.

We offer revisions until you are satisfied with the proof, and we will not begin production until you give your explicit approval. Our online customizer also lets you see a live preview of your text on the stone as you type, so you can experiment with wording before placing your order.

We ship to all 50 United States via UPS Ground. Shipping cost depends on your location and is calculated at checkout. Our headstones ship from our US workshop. Every memorial is packaged in a custom wooden crate with foam padding and fully insured during transit.

We can deliver directly to your home, to the cemetery, or to a monument installer of your choice. For deliveries to Hawaii, Alaska, and US territories, additional freight charges may apply. Please contact us for a shipping quote to these locations.

Most cemeteries have specific regulations regarding the size, type, and placement of headstones. Please check with your cemetery before ordering to make sure they accept a 28x16x3in flat granite marker.

Our memorials are 28x16x3in, one of the most common flat marker sizes accepted by US cemeteries.

Every SilkStone memorial is fully insured during shipping. If your stone arrives damaged during transit, we replace it at no cost to you.

We also send you a digital proof before engraving begins and photographs of the finished memorial before it ships. If the engraving does not match the proof you approved, we will make it right. Our engraving is deep-cut and built to last through all weather conditions.

Himalayan granite is extremely durable. Your SilkStone memorial needs very little maintenance.

For routine cleaning, simply use mild soap, warm water, and a soft cloth or sponge. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, abrasive pads, or pressure washers. The polished surface naturally repels moisture and resists staining, moss, and lichen.

The engraving is deep-cut and highly resistant to wear over time. The stone is suitable for all climates, including areas with extreme heat, heavy rain, snow, and freeze-thaw conditions.

We carry several Himalayan granite colors. Our K2 Black is a premium deep black granite, similar to what the industry calls Absolute Black, Jet Black, or Nero Assoluto. Our Himalayan Gray is a natural warm gray, comparable to Georgia Gray, Tropical Gray, or Silver Gray granite. Our Midnight Gold is a rare, exclusive Himalayan granite with a dark base and natural gold mineral veining, available only from SilkStone.

All are quarried in the Himalayan mountains of Pakistan and are among the hardest natural stones available for memorial use. The density of Himalayan granite means it holds a mirror polish longer and resists weathering better than many domestically sourced stones.
